Writing Poetry

Abigail’s Poetry Writing Learning story

The Problem:
How do I express my ideas in a poem that communicates effectively to my audience?

My poem:
Breeze

Breeze is fast as a cheetah ,
She Is funny like a monkey
She is quiet like a cat.

Success criteria: (highlight the success criteria your writing shows)
I can use-
  • Line breaks-writing in shorter lines to slow the reader down
  • Rhythm-makes the reader tap their foot
  • Simile-comparing using ‘like’ or ‘as’
  • Metaphor-saying that one thing is something else
  • Personification-giving human traits to something that is not human
  • Imagery-helping the reader form a picture in their mind
  • Alliteration-using the same sound at the beginning of neighbouring words
  • Repetition-repeating something

My Learning:  (Choose 3 to write about)

  • I was good at ….. because…..
  • I got better at ….. because…..
  • It is hard to ….. because…..
  • I feel ….. when….. because…..
  • My next steps are ….. because…..
  • I am going to achieve my next steps by ….. because…..
  • I used the key competency of ________ as learning power because…..
  • I needed to use the key competency of _______ as learning power because....
  • ________ thinks I am good at ….. because…..

I am getting better at doing line breaks
I was good at simile because I used as in my poetry when I wrote she is quiet like a cat.

I feel good when i imagery pictures because it  helps you get images in your head like when I said monkey in my poem.

Bothamley Park

Bothamley Park Learning story

Problem:
How can we look after and support our local park?
How can I use my ‘voice’ to make a difference?

My Learning:
I noticed that when we went to bothamley park we saw rubbish inside the stream. People
throw their rubbish into the road, and it goes down the drain then the rubbish goes to to the stream and then
down to the sea

I found out that their was rubbish in the water because people eat food then they throw their rubbish into the
drain then the rubbish goes to the rods then goes to the sea.

I feel joyful because that is the animals that lives inside the water so the fish and the animals that lives inside
the water will not be sick.

Now I will look after the steam by picking up rubbish inside the water.

Art

Abigail’s Art Learning Story

The problem:
How do I communicate what Bothamley Park is like using the style of Robert Delaunay?

What we did:
First we look at the photos. Then we knew what to do so we went  and have a practice. then we were
finished on the practice.so then we have to copy the practice one on to the real paper. so we did it.
Then we used jovi’s and coloured paper to draw our picture.

Here is a photo of my art:

Success Criteria:  To represent the environment I saw at Bothamley Park , I will use-
  • The media (materials) of paper, watercolors,Jovi's,color paper
  • Have an eye like a scientist
  • A range of geometric shapes and lines
  • Repeated shapes and patterns
  • Representations of bothamley park
(highlight the success criteria you achieved)

My Learning:  (Choose 2 to write about)
  • I was good at …..
  • ________ thinks I am good at ….. because…..

I was good at drawing shapes and patterns on my picture.

I got better at having an eye like a scientist so i can know what to
do when I go.

It was hard to have an eye scientist because you have to look
carefully.

Writing a Recount

Abigail’s Recount Writing Learning story

The Problem:
How do I retell a significant event so others can share my experience?

My recount:
Jack and the Beanstalk: From the perspective of the Giant

I was asleep on my nice bed then I smell someone coming
inside. then I woke up and I saw a boy running away. so I ran
after that boy and I caught him.then I slip so he ran as fast as
he could.then on the next day jack

Came back and he didn’t knock On the door. he climbed
through the window when mum was cooking food for me.
So I said Fee fi fo fum I smell a child with my nose. so I got
this piano so it made me go to sleep.

Jack quickly ran out of the oven and ran away and climbed
down the beanstalk. and then I ran after him then he said to
get the cross so him and his mother cut the beanstalk down.
Then I fell on the ground.

Success criteria: (highlight the success criteria your writing shows)
I can use-
  • A powerful hook to get the reader’s attention
  • Where, when and who in the introduction to set the scene
  • An introduction- middle- conclusion
  • The 5 W’s (where, when, why, who,  what, and why) and 1 H (how) to add detail
  • Dialogue to tell what happened
  • The past tense
  • Descriptive words to make the writing interesting
  • Precise words to let the reader know what exactly happened.
  • Connectives to make the  story flow from one group of ideas to another.
  • Punctuation to help the reader understand the ideas
  • Personal voice like I think….

  • ________ thinks I am good at ….. because…..

I feel happy when I am on my own because I can get my work done.

It was hard to understand the idea because you have to listen carefully because you mate repeat the ides

I was good at writing because I sound out the world that I am stuck on like confusing.

Measuring in Maths

Abigail’s Maths learning Story
The Maths problem:
Clayton thought that this shape would make an interesting garden.  What is the perimeter of this garden? What is the area?

The story of the Maths problem: (use your own words)
Clayton thought that this shape is interesting for the garden to make.

What we were trying to find out:
We were trying to find out the perimeter of the garden and the area.

How we solved the problem:
First I added the 12m&4m =16 so then I added 4+6=10 then I added 5+6=11 then I added 7 but I added the 16+10+11+7=44m.

Working as a group is important:
I am good at sharing my ideas because I can speak loud
I am getting better at listening  because I can repeat their idea

Reading

Abigail’s Term 1 Reading Learning Story
How do we make meaning from the texts we read using a range of reading strategies?
I chose this Library book to read at silent
reading time because I’m Interested in the
book I chose because its cool.

I located information in the story when Geronimo came in the morning
grandfather pulled his ear I know because it said in the book.

I located this information by looking at the world's that told me was giggled,
groaned, risking, scream, silent.
I worked out that she is always scared at the dark
I used the book that gave me clues and the clues that gave me was
I found out that an important idea from my other book when I was reading it
made me think about when Benjamin didn't know how to fly a plane.
I used what I know about and ideas from the story about

The book I was reading was the curse of the cheese pyramid in that book it said
in winter it’s always cold and in my other book could the princess of the castle
when it’s is winter in the princess of the castle it’s frozen.
I enjoyed reading this book because it was so good and it made me get stuck
into the book that I was reading.
